Chemical Peels

Professional-grade peeling solutions - Treats pigmentation, acne and aging - Customised to your skin type

CHEMICAL PEELS: PROFESSIONAL SKIN TRANSFORMATION

Chemical peels remain one of the most effective ways to transform your skin’s texture, tone, and clarity. By applying carefully chosen acid solutions, we speed up your skin’s natural renewal process, revealing the fresh, healthy skin beneath while giving collagen production a proper boost.

Today’s peels are far more sophisticated than the aggressive treatments of years past. We can now tailor treatments precisely to your skin type, concerns, and how much downtime you can handle. From gentle ‘lunchtime peels’ that give you an instant glow to deeper treatments that dramatically improve scarring and pigmentation – there’s something for everyone.

At our Harley Street clinic, we use medical-grade acids including glycolic (AHA), salicylic (BHA), TCA, and specialised combination peels. Each works differently – AHAs are brilliant for surface renewal and hydration, BHAs get right into your pores to clear acne, while TCA goes deeper for more significant concerns.

What really makes the difference with professional peels isn’t just the quality of acids – it’s knowing which to use, how to apply them, and how to look after your skin afterwards. Our specialists assess your skin’s thickness, sensitivity, and healing capacity to choose the perfect peel strength and technique for you.

The benefits go well beyond what you see immediately. Regular professional peels can completely transform your skin over time – improving cell turnover, reducing pigmentation, minimising pores, and keeping that youthful glow going strong.

YOUR CHEMICAL PEEL JOURNEY

From consultation to radiant results

PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION

We start with a thorough skin analysis – looking at your skin type, sensitivity, and specific concerns. We’ll chat about your goals, lifestyle, and how much downtime you can manage to recommend the perfect peel for you.

PRE-PEEL PREPARATION

Depending on your peel type, we might recommend some prep skincare to optimise results. On treatment day, we thoroughly cleanse and degrease your skin to ensure the acid penetrates evenly.

PEEL APPLICATION

Using precise techniques, we apply your customised peel solution. You’ll feel tingling or mild stinging – we monitor this carefully. Application time varies from 1-10 minutes depending on the peel strength and how your skin responds.

NEUTRALISATION & CARE

Some peels need neutralising, others self-neutralise. We apply soothing, protective products and give you detailed aftercare instructions along with premium recovery products to support healing.

RECOVERY & RESULTS

Recovery varies by peel depth – superficial peels might not even cause visible peeling, while deeper treatments involve 5-7 days of flaking. Results emerge as new skin is revealed, with continued improvement over several weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right peel is quite an art, and it depends on several factors. During your consultation, we’ll look at your skin’s thickness, how oily it is, sensitivity levels, and current condition. If you’re new to peels or have sensitive skin, we’ll probably start you on gentle AHA peels like glycolic or lactic acid – these brighten with minimal fuss. For acne-prone skin, BHA (salicylic acid) peels work brilliantly. Pigmentation responds well to TCA peels or combination treatments. Deeper concerns like scarring might need stronger TCA concentrations or multiple sessions. We also consider your lifestyle – if you can’t take time off work, we’ll stick to lighter peels with no visible peeling. Our expertise means you’ll get the most effective peel while keeping risks minimal and results optimal.

Downtime really varies depending on how deep we go. With superficial peels (light AHA/BHA), you typically won’t have any visible peeling – just maybe some mild redness for a few hours and possibly light flaking for 2-3 days. You can wear makeup straight away and carry on as normal. Medium peels (higher concentration TCA) are a different story – you’ll have more significant peeling starting around day 2-3 and lasting 5-7 days. Your skin will be red, tight, and visibly peeling during this time. Not ideal if you’ve got a big event coming up! Deep peels (high TCA) need 7-14 days recovery with significant peeling, redness, and initial swelling. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and products to help you through each phase comfortably. Most patients find the results absolutely worth the temporary inconvenience.

This really depends on the type of peel and what you’re trying to achieve. Light peels can be done every 2-4 weeks as part of an ongoing maintenance programme – they’re gentle enough for regular use. Medium peels need more spacing – typically 3-6 months apart to let your skin fully recover between treatments. Deep peels might only be needed once a year or even less frequently. Many patients do well with a series approach – starting with several light peels to prep the skin, then progressing to medium depth for more dramatic results. For conditions like acne or melasma, we might recommend monthly treatments initially, then maintenance every 2-3 months. Your skin’s response guides the schedule – some people get great results quickly, while others benefit from regular, ongoing treatments.

Yes, but we need to be extra careful. Darker skin has more melanin and a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) with aggressive peeling. However, when done properly, peels can be brilliant for concerns common in darker skin like hyperpigmentation and acne scarring. We typically use gentler acids like lactic acid or low-concentration glycolic acid. Salicylic acid is excellent for darker skin as it’s anti-inflammatory. TCA can be used but requires very careful application and pre-treatment with pigment inhibitors. Pre-treatment might include hydroquinone or kojic acid to suppress melanin production. Post-care is absolutely critical – strict sun protection and anti-inflammatory care are non-negotiable. Our experience treating all skin types means we can safely and effectively peel darker skin tones. We might suggest test patches and conservative initial treatments to ensure your skin responds well.

Getting your skin ready properly is crucial for best results. Before your peel, stop using retinoids 3-7 days before (depending on strength), avoid sun exposure and definitely no tanning, discontinue other exfoliating treatments, and let us know about any medications – especially Accutane. Skip waxing for at least a week before. After your peel, the rules are just as important: absolutely no sun exposure without high SPF, don’t pick or peel flaking skin (we know it’s tempting!), avoid active ingredients like retinoids and acids until fully healed, stay away from heat (saunas, hot yoga) for 48 hours, and use only the gentle products we recommend. Makeup can usually go back on after superficial peels but should be avoided with deeper treatments until peeling is complete. Exercise should be limited for 24-48 hours to prevent excessive sweating. Following these guidelines ensures optimal healing and results while minimising any complications.
